Phobias
Fear of flying. Fear of heights. Fear of spiders. We all know
them, but what are they?
It’s my belief that there are two degrees
of phobias, and therefore two ways of dealing with them.
Phobias are
often caused by an emotion that is “locked” away in the subconscious
mind. This is caused by an emotion that is so strong that the conscious
mind doesn’t want to deal with it. It throws the emotion into the
subconscious mind, and the subconscious mind, not knowing what to
do with it, locks it away. Unfortunately with the emotion still there,
as the person gets older, the energy of that emotion is trying to
find a way out. This often shows itself as a phobia, but no matter
how many phobias you develop, the emotion will still be locked away.
Although it occasionally happens to us in adult life, most locked
away emotions occur when we are younger and our immature minds are
unable to deal with all the different emotions we experience. It often
takes many years after this happens for the phobia to develop. The
feelings and panic felt when suffering a response to a phobia is the
minds way of protecting a person from a dangerous
situation and is
'normal' happening within the mind.
There are two ways I deal with
a phobia. If the phobia is deep rooted, then I use hypno-analysis.
This therapy works on the ‘cause and effect’. The phobia is a symptom,
so there must be a cause. If you don’t know what the cause is, then
it is deep rooted and Hypnosis is ideal at finding and removing it.
For example, if someone at a young age had been shut in a small dark
cupboard, and that person had found the experience terrifying, there
is a chance that the conscious mind was unable to deal with all that
emotion at once, and the subconscious mind locked it away. As that
person reached adulthood, they may well develop claustrophobia (fear
of small enclosed spaces) and nyctophobia (fear of the dark) even
though they had consciously forgotten about the incident. By drawing
this locked away emotion from the mind, the phobias will disappear
for good.
This type of therapy gives fantastic results in the right circumstances and takes about 8-10 sessions
It’s important to realise
that you don’t have to put up with a fear or a phobia just because
that’s the way ‘you’ve always been' Cure your phobia or fear
now.
If a phobia is more easily explained, like having a phobia of dogs
because you were badly bitten as a child, or water because you nearly
drowned in your past, then I usually use a NLP quick phobia release
and this is normally done in 1 or 2 sessions.
Fears
Fears are very similar
to phobias but can show in slightly different ways. They often stem
from a locked away emotion, although some fears can be learnt at a
very young age. So if a young person watched the news on television
and it showed the carnage of a plane crash, although not realising
it at the time, the emotion stirred when watching the news may have
been so strong it penetrated the subconscious mind. This will then
develop into a fear of flying in adulthood. By finding out what caused
it in the first place, the emotion can be removed, and replaced with
a confidence and calmness about flying.
